The Cyriax Method
Selective Tissue Tension Test (S.T.T.T.) and Differential Diagnosis. The selective tissue tension test was designed by Dr. James Cyriax (Modern Orthopaedic Medicine). The test consists of active-range-of-motion (AROM), passive-range-of-motion (PROM), and resistive tests, followed by palpating of anatomical structures. Thru all the test result, it help the therapist to clarify the acuity (or severity) of the injury and to identify the struture most responsibilities for patient’s pain.
The Basic principles of The Cyriax Method are: 1. Every pain has a source. (Important of differential diagnosis). 2. Treatment must reach the source. (Again Important of differential diagnosis). 3. Treatment mus benefit the source in order to relieve the pain. Most sources of pain in the musculoskeletal system can be localised to a specific tissue. We look carefully in a systematic manner to isolate the cause of pain, and then treat it specifically. A specific diagnosis or diffential diagnosis leads to successful treatment
